Scheduling Questions
How far in advance should I book my session?
As soon as possible! At this time I am scheduling 4 sessions per month so the schedule fills up quickly. I can be somewhat flexible with timing for sessions but typically attempt to schedule outdoor sessions either early morning or early evening before dusk for that yummy lighting we all desire. Newborn sessions typically take place on weekdays. Please include your due date when you contact me if you wish to schedule a newborn or maternity session.
When is the best time for those cute newborn photos?
The best time to photograph newborns is between 5 days and 2 weeks old, when they are still super sleepy. After you reserve your session, you will be tentatively scheduled for a week past your due date, and we will adjust the date depending on when your baby arrives. I ask that parents call within a few days of birth to make sure to get a spot on the calendar. Newborn sessions are done on weekday mornings unless a weekend is specifically requested and available when booking your session.
My baby is 4/5/6 weeks old, but I want to do a newborn session. Is it too late?
No way! Your baby is still as cute as ever, and will probably start smiling any second now, which is a great milestone to capture. I enjoy doing more lifestyle newborn sessions with just one prop in a wrap or two. So, that allows for a newborn session a bit older.
Where do sessions take place?
I no longer have a studio space so I prefer to do sessions at clients homes or at a mutually agreed upon location like a park or other fun location. I generally discuss the goals of your session with you and decide on a location around that.
Can I reschedule if it rains? What if I, or someone in my family, gets sick?
I do not charge a penalty for weather or illness-related rescheduling. Please do not bring a sick child to your session! On the other hand, do not reschedule if you or your child has acne, scratches or bruises. I can edit those out later.
I will suggest rescheduling outdoor sessions if the temperature will be less than 30 degrees or over 90 degrees, if it's very windy, or if rain is imminent. I will do sessions in the rain if you wish to proceed as scheduled.
Please understand that weekend sessions are usually completely booked months in advance so we may need to get crafty in rescheduling your session. For instance, if you had been planning an evening session, I may need to switch you to a morning session to accommodate two sessions in one day.
Is there an extra charge for adding more people into the photos?
No, whether it be three people or twenty, you are paying for my time at the session and editing your photos. I provide the same number of retouched images regardless of how many people are at your session. However, as more people are added, the more "posed" the photos become, so if you like a more candid look, limit the number of people at your session.
Do you ever host mini or specialty sessions?
I do. These are shorter sessions and are themed, they are generally all inclusive meaning you pay for the time and a set number of digital images. They are a great way to get in an extra session or just for something fun to fit your child’s personality. Check my facebook page and blog often to see these posted with details.
I generally offer Signature sessions in the spring and fall. These are at a set location of my choice and a great way to get in sessions during my busiest seasons.
Do you photograph events like baby showers and birthday parties?
Of course! Please contact me to get a quote for your event.
